A themed train dedicated to Kazimir Malevich has appeared in the Kyiv metro. Where to see it
The Malevich art train went into service on August 27 on the blue metro line, which runs closest to Kazimir Malevich Street. The train will run for two months. This was reported to LIGA.net by FILM.UA Distribution.
The train cars feature facts and quotes about the artist's Kyiv period: his birthplace in the capital, his studies at the Mykola Murashko drawing school, and his teaching at the Kyiv Art Institute (now – NAOMA).
"Such projects are especially valuable to us, because the Kyiv Metro transports hundreds of thousands of passengers every day. The art train of Malevich will help to tell more about his life and connection with Kyiv," says Alexey Ivanchik, Deputy Head of the Metro.
The train was painted by artist Dmytro Kasyanyuk and his wife from the Paint Haunters team. The work took four days and more than 170 cans of paint.
"This is not just a subway car – it's an art object, our history in motion. The world still often considers Malevich to be Russian. Our goal is to restore his true identity, connected to Ukraine and Kyiv," says the film's producer, Maria Kael.
The premiere of the film "Malevich" will take place on September 11. The film will show key events in the artist's life: love, envy of competitors, grief for the peasants during the Holodomor, and rejection of the Soviet system.
The main roles are played by actors of the Franko Theatre – Vitaliy Azhnov, Khrystyna Korchynska, Maryna Koshkina, Oleksandr Rudinskyi, and others. The music was composed by Milos Eliech ("Ocean of Elza"), and the soundtrack is the song "The wind is blowing very hard in the field" performed by SHUMEI.
