"Genes are not a verdict, but a clue": how DNA tests for diseases work and whether everyone should take them.
LIGA.net explains what DNA tests actually show, who needs them, and how to make the results useful, not a cause for alarm.

Genetic testing is becoming increasingly popular – it seems to be able to tell you everything: from the risk of hereditary diseases to a predisposition to sports or a certain type of diet. But is this information really necessary for everyone? And what should you do if the result shows a "dangerous" mutation?

Especially for LIGA.net Dmitry Mykytenko, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Geneticist, and Founder of the Genetic Center for Motherhood and Childhood, said:
- who really needs genetic testing;
- the main types of DNA testing and their differences;
- accuracy of tests and possible errors;
- what diseases can be detected using DNA;
- what the result means regarding susceptibility to cancer or other diseases;
- how much the tests cost and what determines the price.
