Russians damaged St. Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv, a UNESCO heritage site – photos

During the nighttime Russian attack, St. Sophia Cathedral, which is not only a shrine but also a monument of Ukrainian architecture and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was damaged. This was reported by Minister of Culture Mykola Tochytskyi.
The blast wave caused the destruction of the cornice on the main apse of the monument, Tochytskyi notes, adding that the Odesa Film Studio was also damaged.

"Pavilions, storage facilities, scenery, and vehicles were damaged. The sets for the film Dovzhenko, a national project about the most famous Ukrainian director, were completely destroyed.Male Voiceover" the minister said in a statement.
St. Sophia Cathedral is one of the most prominent monuments of Ukrainian architecture and culture, which has the status of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The cathedral was built in the 11th century by order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise. The original style of the monument was Byzantine, but after numerous reconstructions in the XVII-XVIII centuries, it acquired the features of Ukrainian Baroque.
